In ME201, introduction to Mechanical Engineering, me and 2 of my peers were tasked with making an autonomous track-guided trolley. Besides geometrical requirements, the only necessary features were going around a track and stopping at obstacles.
My team and I used an iterative approach where we refined details more as we moved along. Most parts in our finished trolley went through multiple versions before being settled.
Our first documented version of the trolley is above. It couldn't move yet and most of the parts are very make-shift. The hubcaps were cut out of a thick piece of plastic and drilled to fit screws, and the motor mounts are random pieces of plastic we found in the shop.
